Recipies

I’m working on a much longer post, and I thought I’d give you these while I’m working on it.

Okay- here are some of our favorites.

1) Take a chicken breast, and bake it. When it’s about 1/2 cooked, sprinkle it with rosemary and garlic powder (or fo’ real garlic), then smother it in marinara. When it’s done cooking, cover the breast in mozzarella cheese. Dee-lish.

2) Brown some ground meat, add marinara. Cook pancakes, but thin out the recipe. Serve the crepes nee pancakes with the meat sauce.

For lunch you can try (and I swear this is good) a can of tuna, crumbled up pretzels, and some of that spicy Chinese mustard. It’s like sushi, but you’re kickin’ it hobo style.

Kmart can give you the recipe for the Beef, Bean, Biscuit Bake, and his Turkey Chili.

I’d say, the best way to come up with new meals is to be creative. The food we eat is pretty bland on it’s own, but when paired with other foods, they become more interesting. Combine things that you wouldn’t have thought of before. Try to stay away from boxed or frozen sides.

Instead of cooking up some hamburger helper, what else can you do with ground beef?

Try this, make a bunch of thin hamburger patties. Put some cheese on top, and then top the cheese with another patty. Viola, you’ve got a funky new hamburger. Maybe you could try the same thing with chili, or salsa, or in ACWF’s case, you’d cram the thing with bacon bits and ranch dressing.

Also, spices help make regular stuff just a little bit different. For example, add some Old Bay to plain popcorn. Or you could try parmesean cheese. Don’t be afraid to experiment.

Go out on a limb, and buy some new stuff at the grocery store to help get your creative juices flowing.

Have you tried making sandwiches out of soft tortillas? If so, have you tried making anything else (besides tacos and fajitas) out of soft tortillas?

Don’t think about food as just something you eat. Think about each part of a meal as a tool. What other function can bread serve? Is there something funky you can add to make a sauce thicker? Thinner? How could I integrate vegetables into this?

You can also try to think of new ways to prepare food. For example, the American style sandwich is layers of stuff between bread. What if you had something on top of the sandwich, like a fried egg? All of a sudden you have to eat the sandwich with a fork and knife, and you’ve got a whole new eating experience.

(For more on some awesome sandwiches, check out Darth’s post, here.)

You can also dismantle one type of food to add it to another type. You can add any type of finger food (wings, chips, peanuts, pizza, etc.) to something large and balnd to give it a kick. Putting wing pieces in soup, or peanuts into a salad, are relatively risk free ways to change up something regular.

All of you recipes that you sent us were great, and the steps were simple, and the ingredients easy to find. Kmart and I are sure to use them.

It may not come as a surprise though, that we rarely eat out or order in. Not only is it too expensive, but it’s not any fun. We’d rather try to figure something out, screw it up, and then eat it anyway, than shell out for boring pizza, or something like it. Talk with whomever you may be eating. Brainstorm ideas about what would go well with what. It’s easy to create new recipies, you just have to let yourself try.
